International Group seminar on Fully Automatic Lock (FAL) systems for container securing
In response to increasing concerns within the Group clubs over failures of FAL container securing systems, the Group Ship Technical Committee chaired by David Heaselden arranged a seminar in London on 24 August attended by representatives from the Group clubs and outside experts. The seminar identified a number of contributing factors and was informed of the work being undertaken in the Lashings at Sea Project headed by Jos Koning of the Dutch research Institute, Marin, in relation to the dynamic forces affecting containerships, containers and securing systems. Group clubs will be updating and advising their members in relation to these issues. A press release was issued by the Group following the seminar.
