Brussels meetings on Third Maritime Safety Package

Andrew Bardot, Jonathan Hare and David Baker met on August 26th with MEP Giles Savary (rapporteur on the draft Directive on the Civil Liability and Financial Securities of Shipowners (CLD)) in Brussels to discuss the European Parliament (EP) Transport and Tourism Committee’s proposed second reading amendments to the CLD. Further meetings were held with the assistant to Dominque Vlasto (draftsperson of the draft Port State Control Directive) and Venetia Kallipolitou (Greek EU shipping attaché). The discussions on the dossiers of the Third Maritime Safety Package (including the CLD and Port State Control Directive) are reaching a crucial stage in both the EP and the European Council and the meetings were beneficial in terms of understanding the position of both institutions on the Package and in outlining the International Group’s position, in particular on the CLD and the recent EP proposed amendments.
