IMO Legal Committee - 94th session - IG attendance
The annual autumn meeting of the IMO Legal Committee was held in London from 20-24 October. David Baker and Hugh Hurst attended the meetings on behalf of the International Group. The Committee's main agenda item was the proposal to amend the 1996 HNS Convention by means of a Protocol. The Committee considered the proposals to amend the Convention in some detail, and decided to recommend to the IMO Council that a diplomatic conference be convened as soon as possible in 2010, to consider and adopt a prospective Protocol to the 1996 Convention. The Committee also discussed the papers submitted by the International Group, jointly with the International Chamber of Shipping, on implementation of the Bunkers Convention and the single Flag State insurance certificate.
