IMO HNS Diplomatic Conference - IG attendance

The IMO diplomatic conference to consider amendments to the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, 1996 (HNSC) was held in London from 26 - 30 April 2010. The conference adopted amendments to the HNSC, in the form of a Protocol, that overcome the main obstacles to implementation and entry into force of the HNSC. These include an increase of 15% to the shipowners' limit of liability for damage arising from the carriage of HNS by sea in packaged form. Consideration of such an increase was influenced by, amongst other considerations, the historical claims data submitted and presented to the conference by the International Group (see IG document on the submissions page of this site).
