Tony Baker, head of loss prevention at the North of England and chairman of the Group Ships Technical Committee, and Group Executive Officer Andrew Bardot were invited to attend and present at the 2016 CIRM Annual Conference and AGM meetings held in Italy in April 2016. CIRM, which is headquartered in London, is the principal International Association for the marine electronics industry, and one of its key functions is to promote the application of electronic technology in the fields of marine navigation, communications and information systems to the safety of life and efficient conduct of vessels at sea.

The meetings were well attended by CIRM member representatives from around the world, and by a number of shipowner representatives, International Shipping Industry associations including ICS and Intertanko, the IMO and the Italian government. Tony Baker presented to the meeting on the role of ECDIS in marine accidents, and Andrew Bardot delivered a presentation on large casualty causation and the human element.
