Pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2015 between the Group and Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) regarding the response to major casualties and incidents involving salvage and wreck removal, Michael Kelleher of the West of England and the chairman of the Group’s Large Casualty Working Group attended “Exercise Whakautu II: 2016”, a training exercise to test MNZ’s preparedness for a major salvage, pollution and wreck removal event.

After four years of consultation and review by a CMI International Working Group (“IWG”) on which the Group participated, along with shipowner and property insurer representatives, adjusters and National Maritime Law Association representatives, the York Antwerp Rules 2016 were adopted by the CMI Assembly at its conference in New York in early May.
